The exhibitions ‘Scherts’, ‘Vrijmoedig’ and ‘Ontgrensd’ consist of cartoons and photographs that take the changing face of Europe as their subject.
The International Exhibtion Of ‘Jest - from Maastricht to Brexit',2017 ‘Jest - from Maastricht to Brexit' ('Scherts – van Maastricht tot Brexit’) 2 December 2016 – 24 February 2017, MaastrichtIn 2017 the European Union will celebrate the 25 anniversary. It was established by the signing of the Maastricht Treaty on 7th of February 1992.
With 'EUROPE CALLING!' the City of Maastricht and the Provence of Limburg want to pay full attention to this historical event with a range of activities.One of this activities is 'Jest' - an international exhibition of cartoons made by cartoonists from the member states and reflecting on the European Union, from the founding till today.
Important issues are of course the introduction of the euro in 2002, the referendums, the accession of new states, the Greek crisis and the recent refugee crisis and Brexit. More than a hundred cartoonists send in their artistic creations and satirical views on the EU.The exhibition will be held in the Limburg Provincial Government Buildings in Maastricht. Opening ceremony: December 2th at 11.00 a.m.

This exhibition series, entitled ‘Vastgelegd & Getekend’ (‘Snapped and Drawn’ ), is being organised as part of the ‘Europe Calling! Maastricht Treaty 25th Anniversary’ programme. On Friday 2 December at 11 a.m., King’s Commissioner Theo Bovens will conduct the official opening ceremony at the Provincial Government Buildings in Maastricht, the place where it all began 25 years ago.
